I have had these cuttings from a pothos for almost 2 years but the leaves dont grow larger than this. I see a few new leaves every once in a while but just want to know, will it ever get bigger in the water?

It also needs something to climb on to mature

I would suggest not to keep any plant in water, unless you do it properly as in hydroponics, meaning there must be constant *flow* of water to guarantee sufficient oxygen content and it must contain a sufficient amount of nutrients. None of this happens when you keep a plant, any plant, in a jar like this. No surprise it stays small.

Pothos typically need to be mature to grow large leaves and 2 years isn’t a very old plant. They also generally need a ton of light, nutrient-rich soil, and -maybe most importantly- something to climb in order to get large leaves. You’ll want to mimic the natural growing conditions as closely as possible in a home setting, so learn about how they grow in the wild and aim for that.

Unless you grow them in soil and let them climb upwards with moss poles or wood planks or with tree, staying in water won’t grow big leaves.

Give them something to climb on and good light.

I’ve had pothos without a climbing pole for 2 years and the leaves and that big, but another one I propped in water a year ago, then transferred to soil and immediately gave a climbing pole has leaves the size of my hands. It’s amazing

  6. Yes, absolutely …. as soon as you completely change the environment that you have it in and give it entirely different conditions

let it climb and give it nutrients. I’d plant it in soil and give it a moss pole to climb, and fertilize it every once in a while. The root ball is big, but make sure the water roots adapt to soil well by keeping it moist for a while.

Put it in some soil with something to climb on it only needs to go into water until there’s some roots feed regularly in growing season spring to early autumn then once a month I sometimes prop straight into soil with rooting hormone hope this helps

You know that saying, “The grass is always greener on the other side?”

    They just fertilize…

In water alone it will stay pretty contained.

The more sun exposure, the bigger the leaves get. I put mine outside in the summer in direct sunlight, the leaves get huge. Less light will be smaller leaves.

Strong light and pot it with a moss pole. They can survive in low light but give it something to climb and great light and it will get way bigger. Mines bigger than my hand and increased golden spots now.

Not in a jar of water. If you want the leaves to size up, put it on a moss pole. I recommend Sydney Plant Guy on YouTube if you need instructions.

Yea, put it in some dirt with fertilizer. This has to be rage bait.

Have they just… been in water this whole time? Water is just used to grow roots and keep it alive while it does so. To grow leaves and branches it needs nutrients and soil, and if you want it to grow up, you’ll need some sort of support like a moss pole for it to grow around.

Imo.. they would do better if you plant them in soil. You will have better luck. Imo

It typically needs to climb for the leaves to get bigger. Have it go straight up for the most growth in leaf size.

It can happen a bit if you put it in soil (or the right water nutrients) and the conditions are right. But this is more modest and harder to balance.
